Policies should be a clear statement of how an organisation seeks to present within its programs and business as a whole. Policies provide a set of guiding principles to help with decision making and the general culture of an organisation.
A clear set of policies and procedures help the direction of the organisation.
Policies and procedures:
• Ensure compliance with the law and regulation
• Provide appropriate guidelines that describe and explain how things should be done and the expectations of those involved with the organisation such as the board of trustees, staff and volunteers
• By being transparent this will ensure that the board of trustees is accountable and will conduct the work of the charity appropriately.
• Limits risk by providing the guidelines within the policy and procedures.
